Our  afternoon was amazing and filled with many great activities. Despite the foggy weather driving up the mountain camp was sunny all afternoon and perfect for experiencing all of the awesome things Pali has to offer. Our summer camp staff was here demonstrating our activities, including rock star camp, movie makeup, fashion design, action adventure, paintball, ropes course, dance, film, acting, riflery, and many others.

Again, we would like to thank our families for their complements and kind words. We are very happy that you had an enjoyable afternoon and we hope to see you soon for summer camp.

While helping out at the ACA’s Camp West Camp convention, I was honored to get the opportunity to speak to fellow Camp Directors and other camping professionals.  The topic I spoke on was the rather bland, but essential subject of Camp meetings and communication!  I was surprised, however, to be met with a full house of camping professionals in attendance!

Communication is essential to the successful running of a summer camp program and with 20 summers of camp experience under my belt, this subject is very familiar to me.  The session went off without a hitch and was received well by the audience.  I especially enjoyed the discussions at the end of the session.  Thank you to everyone in attendance!

A summer camp experience where the camper is always the most important person on camp.  Where every decision we make is made based on the principle of “What is in the best interest of the camper?”

Here at Pali Overnight Adventures we operate a two-week orientation for our staff members.  This far exceeds the industry standard of only 7-8 days.

The two-week orientation allows us to make sure that we cover extensively the many aspects of camping and instill in our staff the Guidelines for legendary service and level of excellence that Pali campers have come to expect.

We cover (to name just a few):
•    Emergency procedures and the staff’s role in implementation and prevention.
•    Camps purpose, focus and intended outcomes.
•    Developmental needs of campers.
•    Behavior management and camper supervision and group management techniques.  This section emphazies the reinforcing of counseling skills, putting the camper first and “Active Supervision” techniques.
•    Program considerations:  Objectives, safety considerations, skill progression and operating procedures to ensure a safe, fun camper experience.

Need to see our staff in action? We are delighted to announce that Pali will be hosting a Family Day  on Sunday, June 7, 2009, from 1pm – 5pm.

Here’s a chance for the entire family to experience what Pali Adventures is all about and get a taste of what summer camp is like. Throughout the day we’ll be offering camp tours, fun activities, and great food. If you have children ages 9-16 who are interested in summer camp, we invite you visit our beautiful 74-acre camp located in the majestic San Bernardino mountains.

Speaking of our staff, many of the returning counselors and activity directors were on hand to meet and greet the new campers, including Gunner, Sweets, Smurf, Mook, Shakes, Hula, Hammms, Liko, Weasel, Jester, and many others. As summer gets closer more and more of our awesome staff are starting to show up.

It was a very exciting afternoon with many great activities. We had our ropes course open all day–many of our guests took the “Leap of Faith,” which is a 50-foot climb up an enormous pine tree and a 50-foot adrenaline-rushing jump off of that tree, all the while hooked into a full body harness. We also had three sessions of paintball going on in the forest–talk about heart-pumping excitement! There was a lot of buzz in the main hall, where our guests experienced activities like our Fashion Design Institute, Culinary Institute, and learned about our Film Institute and Acting programs.

Our Executive Chef and kitchen staff made sure everyone was well-fed and taken care of, with lots of delicious food and our famous chocolate fondue fountain, which is a favorite of “Midnight Delight” during camp. We had tours of the campsite throughout the day so both parents and children could see Pali’s beautiful natural mountain surroundings.

Overall it was a great day and many parents decided to sign up their children for an even more electrifying time at summer camp. If you missed our open house don’t worry - we have Pali Family Day scheduled for Sunday, June 7. Just look at the top of the page to find out how to sign up.

As a rule, enrollments at Pali are traditionally strong in the Spring, with 58% of our enrollments in 2008 occurring between April and July. With such a solid early base, I encourage parents to make their plans before your first choice of specialties and sessions become wait listed.

We were very happy to have a bunch of our returning staff members at our open house. Gunner, Mook, Indy, Shakes, Hula, TJ, Cinnamon, Smurf, and Traxx joined us to tell our visitors about our awesome program this summer. These new paintball markers will be heavily used in our Secret Agent Camp, along with Extreme Action and Girl Power Extreme specialties.  Not forgetting that paintball is one of the most popular afternoon electives, open to all campers on a daily basis.

These markers are not the only upgrade we’ll be making to the Secret Agent Camp.  We will be adding laser tag missions to our second week of programming for the Secret Agent Camp.  The highlight of this week will be a camp-out and Night laser tag.  Awesome!!!

For all families planning to attend, please let as know as soon as possible.  There is no limit on the number of families attending, however, the activities offered are strictly on a first-come, first-serve basis.

A tentative schedule is as follows:
12:30pm  Gates open.
1:00pm – 4:00pm.  Appetizers and snacks will be available in the dining hall!
1:00pm – 3:30pm   Tours of the camp will be leaving the Dining Hall every 15 – 20 minutes.

Paintball - Please wear solid boots and dress warmly.  The ground is still very wet.

OUR Open House will also provide the perfect opportunity for new campers to learn about Pali.    We will be scheduling tours, showing DVD’s featuring the camp and the specialties and Gunner, and some of his staff will be available to answer any questions you may have about Pali Overnight Adventures.

Pali Overnight Adventures – Where everyday is an adventure!

On March 1, 2009, Two of Pali Adventures most popular staff members were married in a lovely ceremony held in Ferguson, NC.

Moook, a Pali Hollywood stunt specialist since 2004 and our  Head Instructor in 2008 and 2009 married Indy (alum 2006). The wedding had everything you would expect from two Pali employees!

Having spent her entire life around horses, no-one was truly surprised when the bride arrived at her wedding riding a horse, befitting our Horseback Riding Director for this upcoming summer. One may have been surprised to see our very own staff matchmaker, Croft, perform the task of marrying Moook and Indy!!! Upon leaving the beautiful ceremony, no-one was again surprised to see the bride and groom depart on horseback.

The reception, as you come to expect from Pali was a dance fest with the dance floor covered from beginning to end with Pali employees! Leading the way were three members of the boy band and ever-popular P-S-B, Moook, Shakes and Jester. During the ceremony, we heard the great news that Dodge would be returning to Pali in 2009… but I digest!

The wedding was attended by some very familiar faces to Pali campers: Stealth, Deco, Moook, Indy, Gunner, Fabs, Whisper, Hula, Croft, Shakes and Jester.
